| Comments: | My gggrandfather, John Garrison, b. Abt. 1807, Tidewater, Richmond County, Virginia. He married Amanda Huff, b. Abt. 1860. About 1861 he married Matilda Hippicott. John and Amanda had four children. The only one I know for sure is Amanda Garrison, b.April 11, 1848. She married Andrew Martin. There were three older brothers maybe a John and Nat. The boys fought on different sides during the Civil War. John Garrison hid in the cellar when the recruiters came by and Amanda (at age 13) sat on the cellar door and churned butter, then he ran to hide in the cane brake. That was the last she saw of him. She never found her brothers or father after the war. |
